-
Step 2:
Cut the apples into cubes.
-
Step 3:
Discard the cores.
-
Step 4:
Transfer the apple cubes to a saucepan with the water, vanilla powder, and lemon juice.
-
Step 5:
Bring the apples to a boil.
-
Step 6:
Cover and reduce the heat to medium-low.
-
Step 7:
After the apples release their juices, add the sugar to taste.
-
Step 8:
Adjust the sugar according to the tartness of the apples and your preferred sweetness; remember that the breadcrumb mixture and whipped cream are also sweet, so the apple sauce may remain a little tart.
-
Step 9:
Cook the apples for about 15 minutes, until you have a coarse apple sauce. For a finer consistency, cook them longer.

Step 10:
Refrigerate the apple sauce.

Step 11:
Melt the butter in a pan without allowing it to brown.
-
Step 12:
Add the breadcrumbs and 50g sugar, then stir to combine.

-
Step 14:
When the breadcrumbs are lightly golden, remove the mixture from the pan and cool it on a sheet of baking paper.
-
Step 15:
Do not assemble the trifle until just before serving; otherwise, the rasp will become soggy.
-
Step 16:
Serve the trifle in individual small glasses or in a large glass bowl.
-
Step 17:
Lightly whip the double cream.
-
Step 18:
Layer the ingredients in the glasses or bowl, starting with breadcrumbs on the bottom, followed by chilled apple sauce and then more breadcrumbs.
